A private car to Ollantaytambo, the train down the valley to Aguas Calientes, your own guide inside the citadel and lunch before the ride back to Cusco.
Updated 9 October 2026
Everything on this day is arranged for your party alone: the car that collects you, the guide waiting at the top of the shuttle road, the table at lunch. From $339 the operator covers the private transfer to Ollantaytambo station, the tourist train in both directions, the Consettur bus up and down, the entrance ticket and roughly two and a half hours of private guiding inside the Inca city. Lunch is an appetizer and a main course; drinks, other meals and tips are paid separately.
The entry is issued for Circuit 2, the classic route, and it depends on what the Ministry still has for your date. If Circuit 2 has gone, the operator offers Circuit 1 or Circuit 3, which changes the viewpoints and the walking time rather than the shape of the day. Tickets are nominal: your full name and document number are printed on them, they cannot be changed later, and you need the same passport in hand at the gate.
Pickup falls between about 04:30 and 06:30, set by the train service you ask for (Expedition, Voyager or Vistadome) and by what is actually sold for that date. From May to September the operator cannot promise a particular train and assigns the one that fits the schedule. Pickup times can also move without notice, since trains and entry hours are confirmed late, so leave the following morning clear if you have a flight.
Walking is easier here than in the city you came from. The citadel stands at 2,340 m, a thousand metres below Cusco at 3,399 m, which is why spending your first days acclimatising in Cusco and coming down to Machu Picchu afterwards is the sensible order.
Private guiding inside the citadel, private transfer to Ollantaytambo station, tourist train in both directions, Consettur bus up and down, entrance on Circuit 2 subject to availability and lunch in Aguas Calientes.

The private formats differ in where they begin and how much of the chain they carry. The tour on this page handles the whole day from a Cusco hotel, including the train, the bus and lunch. The 12 to 18 hour private guided tour covers a similar day at a higher starting price, and the private day trip listed at $480 runs 13 to 15 hours. The 2 to 3 hour guide service starts in Aguas Calientes and is guiding only, which works if you already hold a train ticket, a shuttle ticket and an entry hour.
